Laura Curtis, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, surrounded by her family. She was born October 6, 1917, on a farm in Marietta Valley, WI to Olin and Leta (Wayne) Reynolds. Laura moved to Madison with her family in 1943 where she worked for Oscar Mayer for 15 years. She then relocated to Rhinelander in 1958 to operate Bert's Resort with her life partner Roman Koch for 38 years. Roman passed away in 1995. Laura loved the resort business and the people who came to visit. She enjoyed making crafts for flee markets, quilting, playing cards, and was a volunteer for the Rhinelander Senior Citizen Center and for the Rhinelander Railroad Museum. Laura always loved to help people out and thoroughly enjoyed everyone's company.

She is survived by, her three daughters, Linda Curtis (Charles DeWitt), Reta (Roger) Fonder, all of Green Bay, and Tommie Baker, Sequim, WA; her two sons, Larry (Pamela) Curtis, Tulsa, OK, and Russell Curtis, Las Vegas, NV; her son-in-law, Charles Skrum, Madison; 16 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Carl (Billie) Reynolds, Monroe, Wis., and Ryland (Judy) Reynolds, Cable, Wis.

She was preceded in death by, her love of 38 years, Roman Koch; her parents; her daughter, Laverta Skrum; her sisters, Edna, Helen, and Marietta; her brothers, Otto and Francis; and a grandson, Roger Skrum; and a son-in-law, Robert Baker.

Friends may call at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Rd. on Tuesday 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating.

The family of Laura Curtis wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Heidi and Nancy for their special care, and to Manor Care West-Arcadia Unit, and Woodside Lutheran Home and Woodside Manor III.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice, and the American Cancer Society.
