Jean Marie Stein, of Green Bay, WI, died at the age of 79 on August 18, 2022. Jean was born March 26, 1943, to Charles Harlen and Mary Helen Frings of Hartford, WI.
Jean graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1961. She later attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, graduating in 1965 with a B.S. in Education with a major in English.
Jean met James W. Stein, son of Eugene and Bertha Stein of Sheboygan, WI, during her sophomore year of college. The couple married on August 14,1965, just months after graduation. They remained happily married for over 50 years.
Jean taught school in Norway, MI, Green Bay West High School, and Catholic Central in Green Bay. She retired from teaching in 1969 to raise her family, but she eventually returned to work in the advertising department at the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Jean was an avid reader and prolific writer. She never met a book she wouldn't read. Jean also enjoyed sending handwritten notes to loved ones in her distinctive cursive handwriting, often attaching drawings she colored herself.
In the summer, Jean could usually be found sitting on the deck in her beautiful backyard garden or riding around town in her convertible.
Jean also loved spending time with her friends and family. She was an active member of the Red Hatters group, and she loved planning and attending luncheons with her numerous first cousins.
Above all, Jean was a truly selfless person, always putting others before herself. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Valerie, Hugh, and Emily Gallagher, of Atlanta, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jessica Stein, of Denmark, WI; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Clay, of West Bend, WI; brother John of Oshkosh; niece, nephew-in-law, grandnieces, and grandnephew, Jessica, Brian, Maia, Nyla, and Declan Dunbar, of Cottage Grove, WI; and nephew and grandniece, Michael and Ava Marie Frings, of Madison, WI. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
