David D. Davis, 81, of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully at his home after a short battle with stage four pancreatic cancer, on Sunday, April 11, 2021. He was born in Escanaba, MI on November 7, 1939 to Glenn Davis and Rose Anderson Davis.

David graduated from Escanaba High School, Class of 1957, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He spent four years in the Navy in communications, learning morse code and obtaining a security clearance. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for three years in communications as well. His travels included Scotland, Iceland, French Morocco and California. David worked for NASA during the rocket launches into space.

After his military experience, he attended Bay De Noc Community College, Northern Michigan University and University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. He proudly graduated in 1994 with a BA in Humanities.

David joyfully married his high school sweetheart, Sally Ann Cretens on September 30, 1961 at All Saints Catholic Church. They remained happily married for over 57 years until Sally's death on March 27, 2019.

David worked for the United States Postal Service for over thirty years. Retiring in 1997 at the age of 57. During that time, he was Postmaster in Fish Creek, WI from 1981-1989.

All through David's life, he had great interests and passions. With every part of his life, he had a dog by his side. He was also very interested in music and books. Lots of the time, he would be seen with his family around him. Being outside was always a good time, as David enjoyed bird watching and wildlife critters. His other hobbies included baseball, sports, and watching his favorite teams play. One thing he was and will always be remembered by was his uplifting and contagious smile, as well as his laugh.

David Davis is survived by his sons: Christopher (Jodie, former spouse) Davis of Appleton, WI; Cory (Sonmi) Davis of Charlotte, NC; sisters: Susan (Mike) Snowaert Gladstone and Cindy (Tom) Filz of Beaverton, OR; and brother Glenn (Kathy) of Florida.  Grandchildren: Henry, Elizabeth and Charlie Davis (Chris and Jodie); Grace and Gina Davis (Cory and Sonmi).

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally (Cretens) Davis; mother, Rose; father, Glenn; in-laws, Philip (Gus) Cretens, Geneva (Christoff) Cretens. David was also preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, cousins and other important family and friends.

The service will be held at Gardens of Rest Chapel starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 with military honors.
