Vivian D. Mathys, 94, Green Bay and Town of Scott, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023. She was born October 7, 1928, in Green Bay to Harold "Barney" and Dena (Laundrie) Boyere.
Vivian graduated from West High School. After high school she worked for Green Bay Soap Co. and worked on furthering her education at NWTC. Shortly after the war she met and married Jack Mathys. They were united in marriage on August 26, 1950. Vivian gave up her job at the Soap Co to raise her six wonderful children. Later she worked for Brown County Social Services where she made many great friends. Vivian loved spending time with her family, especially at their summer cottage on the bay and in later years their retirement home. She enjoyed boat trips with Jack, family, and friends. Vivian loved fishing with Jack and always caught more fish than him. She made legendary "Special K bars" and brought them to every event. Vivian was proud that at the age of 55, she finally learned how to swim.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Susan) Mathys, Vicky (Larry) Vandenbush, Linda (Dallas) Heinz, Terry (Gene VandenHuevel) Linssen, Kathy (Dick) VandeVelden, Jim (Kris) Mathys; grandchildren, Heather (Mike), Holly (Dan), Alisa, John (Sarah Vandeneng), David, Jill, Jodi (Tim), Tina (Todd), Jon (Jillanne), Katy (Kolby), Kent (Katie), Cory (her Godson), Kelsi; great-grandchildren, Brody, Trey, Channing, Everett, Pierson, Drist, Gavin (Lauren Witter), Gage (Kristen Rinaldo), Payton, Trent, Ella, Conley, Keelyn, Brett, J.T., Skylar, Jaelynn, Kason, Brantley, Liliana, Kinsley, Ellie, Emerson, Charlotte; great-great-grandson, Jayce; sister-in-law, Donna Kornowske; many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Barney and Dena; siblings, Bernice, George, Bernadine; brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends and family will gather at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Rd., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1 p.m. with Abbot Gary J. Vivian's family wishes to extend a special thank you to her neighbors, Pat and LuAnn, because of their help and generosity mom was able to stay in her house a few extra years. The Mathys family would like to express sincere gratitude to Tender Hearts for their care and compassion.
