Virginia "Rae" Nicklas, 92, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024. She was born December 12, 1931, in Stiles, WI to Granville and Blanche (Kenney) Caldie.
Rae graduated from Oconto Falls High School, Class of 1949. On January 9, 1954 she married Vincent A. Nicklas at St. Patrick Church in Stiles. Virginia worked for St. Mary's in the business office for over 22 years doing clerical work until her retirement in 1993. She and Vince were charter members of St. Jude Catholic Church. Her volunteer hours over the years are many: she was a driver for Meals on Wheels, gave companion support as a Unity Hospice volunteer and worked in their offices, and volunteered for years alongside her husband in Green Bay's St. Vincent de Paul store. In 2015 she was a nominee for the exemplary volunteers WPS Awards. Rae belonged to at least 3 card clubs. She played Schafkopf (sheepshead), Bridge and many other card games. Rae liked to keep active. At various times she has played softball, been on a bowling league, belonged to a square dance club, bicycled the trails in Green Bay and walked countless miles around her neighborhood. In her later years, Rae could be found sitting outside in the sunshine on her driveway waving and chatting with neighbors. She also was an avid fan of the Packers and the Brewers. She fully enjoyed a good happy hour beer and snack along with Friday fish frys. For a winter reprieve she and her husband loved traveling to Texas and Florida. Rae also loved spending time up north at the cottage with Vince, relatives, and friends.
She is survived by her children, Teresa (Chris), David (Cindy), Lisa (Russ), Lynn, grandchildren, Kristina, Terra, Nina, Anna Rae, Gina, Tanner, Sela, Kelby; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Gianna, Maya, Nicklas, Geneva, Kayden, Marlo and Willow; sisters-in-law, Elsie Caldie, LoaAnn (Gene) Hebel, Kathy DeNoble; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
