Tina Marie (Huettl) Bertrand, age 54, left us all too soon on November 20, 2023. Her husband Scott, and their children Emily, Jaclyn and Hunter were at her side. She was born November 30, 1968 in Green Bay, WI, the daughter of Dan and Dianne (Schmit) Huettl.
Tina loved her husband, cherished her children, and embraced her calling in life to help others. Tina's care and compassion impacted thousands at St. Vincent Hospital ICU for almost 30 years.
Tina was extremely dedicated to her career as a nurse in the ICU at St. Vincent's Hospital. She began her career there in 1994. For the past ten years, she managed the Intensive Care Unit. Throughout her career, and particularly through Covid, Tina worked tirelessly to provide care and compassion to her patients and provide leadership and support to her colleagues. It was not unusual for Tina to work a 12-hour shift and then another 4 to 5 hours at home. She in turn received love, care, and admiration from her colleagues, especially during the past 11 months. Evidence to this culminated in a heartbreaking tribute to Tina as she left her ICU floor for the last time, now as a patient. Over a hundred of her colleagues lined the hallways to send Tina off to the comfort of her home and family.
Tina grew up in Seymour with two younger brothers, Gregg and Rick. Her destiny in caring for others began with babysitting them and her cousins. Tina graduated from Seymour High School in 1987, she attended UW-Stevens Point, pursued her nursing degree at NWTC and went on to obtain her BSN at Marion University.
An uninvited guest showed up to a Halloween party that Tina hosted in 1990 and she met the love of her life, Scott. From the minute Tina and Scott met, they knew they were meant to be together. Tina always being the grounding rod. Tina and Scott were married at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral on June 4, 1994. Tina and Scott enjoyed the Packer seasons and attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans in 1997.
Along with her husband, Scott, the pride and joys of her life were Emily, Jaclyn and Hunter. She was devoted to them and whatever they pursued in life. She traveled to NEW Fusion dance competitions, UM-Duluth dance, Air Force & UW-Stout Gymnastics meets, was an avid fan of Howard/ Suamico baseball and Bay Port wrestling. Tina was a dance Mom, a gym Mom, a book fair Mom at St. John the Baptist School, and a Bay Port Dance Team Mom assisting with their annual craft fair. When something wasn't working, Tina challenged everyone to, "Think outside of the box!"
Tina and her family enjoyed trips to Lake Tahoe, South Dakota and Wisconsin Dells, but she was most happy with time spent at the cabin in Amberg. There she would hike, watch the eagles soar, float down the river, or just sit on the deck with a good book, a cribbage board, and glass of chardonnay or Old Fashion. She loved the many pets that were a part of their family and will be missed by both Onyx and Blue.
Tina was preceded in death by her brother Rick Huettl, grandparents Francis & Eileen Huettl, Laverne & Marion Schmit, In-laws Dick & Colleen Bertrand, sister-in-law Polly Bunker, aunt Nancy (Schmit) Brockman, cousin Rob Schmit.
Tina is survived by her husband (George) Scott Bertrand; children Emily Bertrand (Tyler Steffen) of Eden Prairie, MN, Jaclyn Bertrand of Green Bay, Hunter Bertrand of Green Bay; parents Dan & Dianne Huettl of Green Bay; brother Gregg Huettl (Sarah) of DePere; sister-in-laws Ellen Mortell (Jerry) of Green Bay, Mary Jo McCarthy (Brian) of Menlo Park, CA; 9 nieces & nephews, Daniel Huettl (Alison Pawlowski) of Green Bay, Jennifer Huettl of DePere, Nicholas Bunker (Sara) of Clifton, VA, Danielle Raty (Esther) of Minneapolis, MN, Max Mortell (Joanie) of Plymouth, MA, Peter Mortell (Kristina) of Green Bay, Colleen Mortell of Los Angeles, CA, Christine McCarthy of Austin, TX, Kaitlin McCarthy of Menlo Park, CA; relatives, friends and colleagues.
A very heartfelt thank you to Tina's Team led by Gina Perez. This is a very special group consisting of Tina's current, past, and retired colleagues; and family healthcare professionals who selflessly cared for Tina 24/7 during her final days at home. It is only with their guidance and support that we were able to keep Tina comfortable at home as she wished.
