Thomas "Tom" Dean Matthies, 68, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Green Bay. Tom was born in Berlin, Germany on February 19th, 1956, the son of the late Daniel and Lois Nate Matthies. Tom's family moved frequently during his early years due to his father's sixteen-year career in the United States Air Force. The family returned stateside in 1958 when Tom was two and lived on Air Force bases in Texas, Georgia, and South Carolina. They returned to Two Rivers in 1967. The family lived across the street from Washington High School where Tom graduated with the class of 1974.

Tom attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1978. Throughout Tom's 45-year career, he worked at almost every job there is at a television station, except on-air. Tom worked for all of the Green Bay stations except one. He also spent time in Chicago, Kansas City, and Colorado Springs where he worked on large national commercial accounts. Tom retuned to Green Bay where he worked for Pulse Communications as director of video services. He struck out on his own as operator of his own business, N.E.W. Video Services. He closed out his working years by returning to TV 2 and TV 26, retiring in October 2021. He was a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers. Tom enjoyed tinkering with repairing old sports cars and riding motorcycles. He collected and repaired old cameras. Tom married Kris Beisser Olson on September 26, 1998, at Grace Lutheran Church, Green Bay.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kris; stepson, Lee (Erin) Olson and stepdaughter, Katie (Tristan) Lutzke and their children Robin and Emelia Lutzke; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Laura Matthies and Steve and Mary Jo Matthies; nephews Craig, Jason, Jeff and Ben Matthies. He was preceded in death by his parents.
