With a heavy heart, we share that Steve Kubacki, age 70, passed away with his beloved family by his side on September 5th in Green Bay, Wis.

Steve was born to Stanley and Elaine Kubacki, in Hurley, WI on March 20, 1954, and grew up living an early life outdoors hunting, trapping and fishing. His love of the outdoors brought him to UW-Stevens Point where he majored in soil science and met his best friends, endearingly referred to as the Pointers, who still camp along with their families every year over Labor Day (2024 was the 45th anniversary). Steve later found the love of his life, Cheryl, who gently encouraged him to finish his degree and then agreed to marry him. They made a life together, welcoming three children and moving to various cities across Wisconsin for Steve's career in public administration, ultimately landing in Ashwaubenon. He gave 110% to his job, holding himself, and those around him, to the high standard of "Never give up, never surrender", and the impact he's had across those communities and their people is immeasurable.

Steve was a vivacious and bold character, he was known to show up in bright neon colors, that often didn't match. He cared little for those kinds of things, reserving his energy for family, friends and meaningful connections with almost everyone he met. Steve's kids, and now grandchildren, were his pride and joy - he was a man of strong convictions, holding his children to high standards and instilling in them the values of hard work and perseverance. Beneath his sometimes-tough exterior, he was their greatest supporter, sending weekly letters throughout their college years, each one filled with his wisdom, encouragement, and favorite sayings -reminders that he was always in their corner.

Standing still was not in Steve's vocabulary; he was always on the move - usually to do something for others. Steve took great pride in his garden, generously sharing its harvest with anyone who showed interest. He spent countless hours picking wild blackberries and blueberries for his homemade jams and pies and took on the role of cook and camp director during the annual Pointer campouts. Whether it was hunting expeditions in South Dakota, family vacations to Florida, or fishing trips in Canada, he brought the same energy and enthusiasm to every adventure. Steve relished cultivating experiences for others, bringing joy through food, adventure or just togetherness.

Roo, his final English setter in a long line of beloved dogs including Tigger, Tommy, T-Bone, Blue, Taz and Spacey - was the second love of his life (begrudgingly behind his wife and family), and was his shadow for the last five years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cheryl, their three children Kyle (Katelyn) Kubacki, Allison (Mike) Haberle, Nick (Catie) Kubacki, his five treasured grandsons (Kameron, Keegan, Wesley, Cal, and Jackson), as well as his brother Mark (Megann) Kubacki and sister-in-law Mary Jo Bonk, niece Jennifer Benassi (Mike) and nephew Jeff Ramey (Margaret).

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Warren, sister-in-law JoAnne Ramey, brother-in-law Larry Bonk.

A celebration of life will be held Friday September 20 at Ashwaubenon Community Center, 900 Anderson Dr, from 12-3 pm. A service to honor Steve's life will be held at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Natural Resource Foundation of Wisconsin. To send online condolences, please visit www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
