Shirley "Pookie" Elaine Strehlow, 88, Green Bay, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023. She was born August 13, 1934, in Weyauwega to Paul and Viola (Guenther) Tessen.
On Nov. 15, 1952, she married Richard H. "Dick" Strehlow at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Weyauwega. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and one of strong faith. She gladly volunteered at church, especially with the Ladies Society, and the Altar Guild. At church, Pookie was a member of the choir and shared her beautiful voice for many weddings and funerals. She worked for Prange Way and Shopko. In 1960 Pookie was instrumental in setting up the library at the newly opened Redeemer Lutheran School. She loved reading, knitting, bowling and canning. Pookie was a talented ceramic artist, making many treasures for her family. She enjoyed traveling with Dick and her daughter Pam through JJ Travelers. She took many yearly trips to Pickerel with her family – a tradition that still continues. She adored any time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Pamela (Roderick) Minor, Sobieski; daughter-in-law, Sharon Strehlow, Darien, WI; grandchildren, Travis (Jenni), Greg (Toni), Rachel; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Cody, Preston, Parker; brother, Paul Tessen; many nieces and nephews.
Pookie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, David Strehlow; parents, Paul and Viola; stepmother, Marion Tessen, brother, Wayne (Diane) Tessen; sister, Geraldine (Richard) Kruske; sister-in-law, Dolores Tessen.
Friends and family will gather at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 210 S. Oneida St., from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7; Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
