Samuel "Sam" C. Stockinger, 73, of California and Washington, passed away Tuesday July 18, 2023, in Green Bay, WI. He was born November 16, 1949, in Port Angeles, WA to the late Max and Vilet (Brager) Stockinger.
Sam was born in Port Angeles, but he and his family moved frequently throughout his younger years. They lived in Tacoma, Steel Lake, Federal Way, and Auburn, where Sam graduated from Auburn High School, Class of 1968. During high school and after graduation Sam worked in a motorcycle shop nurturing his life's passion for motorcycles and racing. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and later, obtained two bachelor's degrees from the University of Washington – Seattle.
Sam retired from American Honda Motor Company where he worked for 35 years. He was loved and admired by the many people he worked with and those who worked for him. He lived in California with his wife, Joni and youngest son, Michael. Recently, he has been spending time in Washington with his son, Blaine, and many close family members.
Sam was loved by many at home, work and abroad. He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved riding his motorcycle with his sons, and many cousins who joined in. Sam was happiest riding his motorcycle and rode whenever he could. Motorcycles truly were a lifelong passion for him. His love and grace will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Joni Valley Stockinger; children, Blaine (Sigi) Stockinger of Washington and Michael Valley Stockinger of California; sister, Sally (James) Tiegs; nieces, Maxine (Jeremy) Schauer, Kate (Scott) Damp; nephews, Keith Olson, Mark Olson; great nieces, and nephews, Samantha and Cassie Schauer, Scott Damp Jr., Max Damp, Isaiah Olson; cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Vi; sister, Joan Knapp.
Friends and family will gather at St. Joseph Parish, 936 9th St., Green Bay, WI, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 24; Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Tony De los Santos officiating. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
