Sally Ann Basteyns, 86, Duck Creek, was led by the angels to her heavenly home while surrounded by her loving family on Christmas Eve, 2023. She was born on March 23, 1937 to the late John and Serena (Steeno) Salscheider.
Sally attended St. John the Baptist school and later West High School. Outside of school she helped her family run Salscheider Estate which was located across the street from the church. On August 31, 1957 she married James "Jim" Basteyns. Together they ran Growler's Inn, located on the same parcel as Salscheider Estate was. They were also founding members of River's Bend Supper Club before going on to own and operate The Banc Supper Club on Main and Baird in Green Bay. Sally also worked at the Moose Lodge as well as the Radisson over the years. She was a real people person and loved being a bartender. Her specialty cocktail was an Old Fashioned, which were greatly enjoyed by patrons and family alike. In her younger years she enjoyed boating and fishing with the family. She also was a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and liked to watch the birds and wildlife in her backyard.
Sally was a dedicated servant to others. This showed not only in her professional life, but her personal life as well. Sally was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. John the Baptist where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. She volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul, the Salvation Army, and the Moose Lodge. It brought Sally great joy to help and bring happiness to others. Above all else, she cherished her family and relished spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She would make them cookies and banana bread from scratch and with love.
Sally is survived by her children, Robin Perleberg, Pattie (Pat) Schmitt, Marty (Cheryl) Basetyns, Heather (Brian) Framness; grandchildren, Nick Perleberg, Kaetlyn Schmitt, Aaron Basteyns, Alex Basteyns, Abbie (fiancée Anthony Ehnerd) Basteyns, Jacob McKeever; sister-in-law, Louise Salscheider; as well nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son-in-law, Dave Perleberg; parents; brothers, Mike and Pat Salscheider; sister, Mary Meyer; brothers-in-law, John, Ed, and Raymond Basteyns; sisters-in-law, Eva Maus, Margaret Thyrion.
