Roy E. "Pa" Haen, 90, Green Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 20, 2024. The son of the late Matt and Jeanette (Vander Wettering) Haen was born in Greenleaf on November 7, 1933.
On April 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Verstoppen at Ss. Edward & Isidore Catholic Church. They enjoyed 66 amazing years together. Shirley preceded Roy in death on August 31, 2019.
Shortly after their wedding date, Roy proudly went to serve his country in the US Army, where he was stationed in Korea immediately following the Korean War.
Roy had a strong work ethic and often held multiple jobs to provide for his family. He had worked for many years at Hurlbut Prestress. Roy also helped park cars for PMI for Packer Games and events at the Resch Center. He was always sure to save a special space for family there, often in the front row. Roy enjoyed time spent hunting and fishing with his family and friends, Harold and Smiley, trips to the casino, camping, and working in his garden. He lovingly shared his catches by having friends and family over for fish frys. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roy is survived by one daughter, Debra (Donald Smith) Yahnke; one son, Dean (Beth) Haen; grandchildren, Kevin Fenske Jr., Sarah (Andrew) Allen, Aaron (Amanda) Haen, Daniel (Kat) Haen; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Kennedy, Natalie, Kenzi, Kailyn, Hadley, Lilah, Daniel Jr.; sister-in-law, Joyce Verstoppen; special friend, Merle "Smiley" Dechamps; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; his parents; a son-in-law, Daniel Burkart; brothers, Harold (Ruth) Haen, Gordon (Doris) Haen; sisters, Martha (Raymond) Harvey, Florence (Louie) LaChappelle, Rosella (Martin) Kurowski, Hazel (Delbert) Aldrich; sisters-in-law, Viola (Oliver) Andrews, Ruth (Bob) Carriveau, Florence (Dick) Lambert, Patty (Don) Schultz, Elma Verstoppen; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Edith), Bill (Bonnie), Vernon (Norma), Lester, Donald, and Norbert Verstoppen; as well as special friend, Harold Yahnke.
Visitation will be at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, October 24; followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Roy's name. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Grancare Nursing Home, especially Latrice, Nicole, Sara, Melody, Sue, Eric, and Heidi as well as Unity Hospice, especially Christine for their sincere, loving care given to Roy.
