Roger "David" LaPlante, 64, Green Bay, passed away at Bellin Hospital surrounded by loved ones Saturday, November 19, 2022. He was born on September 28, 1958 in Colorado Springs, CO to the late Darryl and Mary Ann (Delfosse) LaPlante.
Roger was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, Class of '77. On July 23, 1983, he married the love of his life, Barbara Leisgang. Roger supported his family and enjoyed laughing with his coworkers at Bay West Paper and Paper Converting Machine until he was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) in 2004.
Listening to satellite radio, monitoring police scanners, and watching the neighborhood with his dog, Gus, were among his favorite activities. Roger could be found on the front porch during the most severe thunderstorms. He was a wealth of information to his family. A mechanically inclined man, Roger would gladly offer his knowledge to his family with car and home repairs. He was also an avid bowler, scoring 2 – 299 games, and also enjoyed time spent on a motorcycle or a snowmobile.
His lengthy battle with serious medical issues showed his courage in facing numerous life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, he often worried about others more than himself, and stayed strong until the end. Although Roger was initially a man of few words, once you got him talking it was hard to stop him. Roger took great comfort in knowing that his family was doing well in life. He cared that others were safe, and wanted to know what everyone was up to. Roger was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara LaPlante; children, Benjamin (Kristin) LaPlante, and Katie (Grant) Harris; granddaughter, Norah; sister, Amy (Manuel) Ortiz; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at St Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave. on Tuesday, November 22, from 12 to 3 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
Roger's family would like to thank The staffs of UW Madison – Transplant Team, St. Vincent Cancer Center, Bellin Nursing Staff, Bellin Cardiology, Green Bay Health Services, and Unity Hospice for their incredibly kind, sincere, and compassionate care given to Roger. Roger's family would also like to thank the family of Keith Mueller for the gift of organ donation, which added 13 years to Roger's life.
