Roger E. Holmes, 87, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2026 surrounded by his children. He was born on September 24, 1938 in Dodgeville, WI.
As a boy, Roger lost his dad at the young age of 11. He worked on many farms after that, and this was the start of Roger's amazing work ethic. Besides being a hard worker, he had a great sense of humor. Roger graduated from Hollandale High School and joined the Army Reserves just prior to graduating. He worked in retail for most of his life including Stop-N-Go in Madison. Roger ended up retiring from Kwik Trip after 21 years. He married Dena Skews on April 13, 1963. Roger was more than a stepfather to Dena's son, Scotty, who passed away in August of 1963 from Leukemia.
Roger's passion was lawncare. He had the best-looking lawn in Green Bay. Prior to his retirement, Roger started up a side business in lawncare. On rainy days he would work on puzzles. Puzzles became a passion as well! Roger was definitely the #1 Packer fan, Milwaukee Brewers games were always on, and his love for the Badgers (their football and basketball teams) can't be forgotten. Last but not least Roger loved a good NASCAR Race.
He is survived by his children, Greg, Judy (Jeff), Victoria, William (Janet), Bobbi Jo; grandchildren, Adam, Bailey, Alex, Scott, Taylor, Devon; brother, Jerry; sisters, Joan, Janice; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Dena and her son, Scott Arnsmeier; brother, LeRoy; sisters, Karen, Mary, Delores; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Don), Shirley (Bob); firstborn grandson, Derek; as well as Roger's great friend, former roommate, and brother-in-law that he missed greatly, Don Miller.
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 10am to 11:30am on Friday, May 8; Funeral Service to follow at 11:30am. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Mineral Point, WI. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
Family extends a special thank you to everyone involved in Roger's care - especially Moment's Hospice. Thank you for all your care and support. The respect that was shown to our father does not go unnoticed. Especially his nurse Tammie. Thank you so much!
"Our father was our hero and one of a kind. He fought cancer harder than anyone we knew - he was so brave. Roger never complained and was defiant, his positive attitude allowed us more time with him. It was a life well lived. Dad, we love you so very deeply. Words cannot express how much we miss you."
