Roger Cimbalo's third grade teacher saw in the boy the man he would become, describing him as "steady, dependable, industrious, who went at his work eagerly until he had completed it to the best of his ability...gentle, kind, thoughtful but who stands up for what he thinks is right... a good sense of sportsmanship and a nice sense of humor" and always had, as his wife, family and friends can attest, "a twinkle in his eye."
Roger was born February 27, 1946 to Peter and Anne Cimbalo in Highland Park, IL. He was the youngest of four in a lively Italian-American household filled with love and laughter. From a young age he was active in the sports of baseball, basketball, and golf. He passed peacefully at home in Green Bay on February 17, 2023 from a neurological disorder.
He graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in business. He played on the college golf team and had the opportunity to compete at Pebble Beach. With his quiet confidence and ability to listen he had a successful career in sales. His favorite job was as the Scott's Lawn Pro which gave him a lifetime interest in keeping a beautiful yard.
Shortly after moving to Green Bay, a mutual friend set him up on a blind date with Cheryl Aho. It was love at first sight for both and they were married on July 8, 1978. A favorite travel destination in retirement was the national parks and they had memorable trips visiting fourteen of them. Golfing at the Brown County course was always a source of great pleasure for Roger, and it also brought him a circle of great friends, including Jerry, Don, Jim, Clyde, and Clayton. They were witnesses to his two holes-in-one and the rare feat that even Tiger Woods has not achieved, a double eagle. In 1995 on the par 5, 459-yard second hole, Roger's second shot dropped in the cup.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his sister, Joanne Cimbalo (Glenview, IL); nine nieces and nephews, good neighbors, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vincent Cimbalo, Peter Cimbalo; nephew, Michael Schmitt; numerous cousins, parents-in-law Hugo and Celia Aho, sister and brother-in-law, Char and Bob Erlandson.
The memorial service will be on his birthday, February 27, at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., visitation from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Service to follow at 4 p.m. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com .
