Robert "Bob" J. Haglund passed away peacefully November 5, 2026, at the age of 99 with family by his side. Born June 1, 1927, in Superior, Wisconsin, he lived a full, and meaningful life as a husband, father, teacher, fisherman, gardener, and friend. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and the son of Swedish immigrants.
Bob dedicated much of his life to educating young people in the Green Bay Public Schools. Over the course of 39 years, he taught mathematics to an estimated 4,700 students, primarily at Franklin Junior High School, now Franklin Middle School, where he spent 28 years, and later at Green Bay West High School before retiring in 1989.
He was an avid fly fisherman favoring the Brule, Oconto and Wolf rivers and was known to spend hours in the basement meticulously tying his own flies. He loved the challenge of fly fishing, considered trout his favorite food and occasionally shared the river with a bear. He sometimes braved the depths of winter to ice fish on the bay of Green Bay.
Fishing was also something Bob loved sharing with his family. In the summer, he took his children fishing for bluegill and perch in a wooden boat he'd made on small lake near Stone Lake, Wisconsin, where his wife, Carolyn, was raised and where his in-laws lived for many years.
When he wasn't teaching or fishing, he could be found gardening and wood carving. He took pride in growing a remarkable yearly crop of vegetables. If you were lucky enough to be a neighbor or member at his longtime church, Union Congregational Church, you likely partook in the fruits of his labor.
His wood carving focused on trout, ducks, and shorebirds and he sold some of his carvings at gift shops in Door County and passed others down to family and friends.
Bob also loved taking his family camping during summers off from teaching. With a homemade pop-up camper, they visited favorite parks around Wisconsin and one summer camped at Glacier National Park.
Perhaps Bob's greatest accomplishment was raising his family with his beloved wife, Carolyn (Hartman). On June 11, 2026, Bob and Carol celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary-an extraordinary milestone celebrated with their children.
In his later years, Bob and Carol enjoyed having coffee on their deck or at the kitchen table in their Howard, Wisconsin, retirement home while watching the birds and talking about the weather. They had several feeders and could identify many different species.
Bob had a dry, deadpan sense of humor, which was enjoyed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Susan Schantz (Ed), Linda Haglund-Lynch, John Haglund (Maria Grevstad), Kerry Curry, and Jean Moreland; and seven grandchildren, Kari Jean Schantz, Tyler Haglund, Mikaela Haglund, Jaron Curry, Emma Curry, Waverly Moreland, and Robert Moreland.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jean Power and Roy Haglund, and his son-in-law, Tim Lynch.
He was dearly loved and will be remembered and missed by the many people whose lives he touched. We are thankful for his caregivers at Story Point and Unity Hospice, and for all the people who touched his life during his 99 years on the planet.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, at Union Congregational Church, 716 South Madison Street, Green Bay, Wis., followed by a reception at the church. Memorials may be made to the Sierra Club or Habitat for Humanity. To send online condolences go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
