Richard W. "Dick" Hansen, 95, lifelong resident of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024.

He was a 1947 graduate of West High School where he was an exceptional athlete and excelled in several sports, especially in track running events. Many of his teammates and classmates remained lifelong friends.

At West High, Dick met the love of his life, Lois Fencil. Dick and Lois married in 1948. They were together for 80 years until Lois' death in June 2023 and were married nearly 75 years. Together they raised three sons and a daughter with immense love, teaching them many life lessons and good values.

Dick worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Company - Ameritech retiring in 1986. He and Lois were active members of the local chapter of the Telephone Workers of America, a volunteer organization that served the Green Bay community. After retirement and when in Wisconsin, Dick also worked part time as a courier for Bay Title and Abstract Co.

Dick enjoyed being active throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed yard work, walking, biking, playing softball, bowling, golfing, and entertaining family, and friends in their home.

He and Lois were good organizers, planning decades of West High School class reunions and annual picnics for the local chapter of the Communications Workers of America. They enjoyed almost 40 years of retirement together, spending winters in Florida.

Dick and Lois had Packer season tickets, and with friends enthusiastically attended games throughout their lifetime. Dick was also a noteworthy collector of Packer memorabilia.

Dick was a committed grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed playing sports and spending time with them. He had a long, fulfilling, and wonderful life with the satisfaction of being loved by his family and plethora of friends.

He is survived by his children, David Hansen, Jeffrey (Karen) Hansen, Susan (Leon) Tolbert, and Greg (Tami) Hansen. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joyce and Amiel Hansen, Sara Romant, Erik (Nicole) Hansen, Emily (Abayo) Animashaun, Andrew (Rami Clinton) Wilkinson, Samantha (William) Percoski; nine great grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Fencil) Hansen; parents, Jerome Hansen and Joyce (Haney) Hansen; sister, Geraldine (Roger) Steuerwald; brother, James (Rosemary) Hansen; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Don) Oudeans; father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Ethel Fencil; nephew, Daniel Oudeans.

Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18; Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

The family wants to share their sincere gratitude to Mary Strom, Richard's caregiver. Her compassion and commitment to caring for him allowed him to remain in his home as he had always wished.
