Richard "Dick" C. Prehn, 84, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023. He was born July 4, 1939, in Fond du Lac, WI to Orval and Louise (Flanders) Prehn.
Dick lived most of his life in Green Bay. He graduated from Green Bay West in 1957 and swiftly went to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy, in 1963. Dick worked for Fort Howard Paper Company as a machine tender for over 30 years. Over the decades he was a jack-of-all-trades who cast his social net widely including hunting, snowmobiling, coaching softball, camping, woodworking, fishing, and traveling. His strongest and proudest "hobby" was carving. Dick thrived as an award-winning wildlife artist for many years producing hundreds of carved and painted fish, birds, ducks, small critters, and individual feathers which have been shipped to clients in almost every state in the U.S. His talent was truly endless and inspirational. His special getaway was their "up nort" haven in Crivitz where the entire family grew up on the gorgeous flowage. It was on the very same water; he taught each grandchild how to fish and drive the boat. Dick's fish fry dinners were simply legendary.
Each person who crossed Dick's path was a treasured part of his life story. The family would like to thank each of their lifelong friends and family members for giving Dick such a full life with memories they will never forget.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Nancy; daughters, Debbie, Bonnie (Altan); loving grandchildren, Lissa (Zach), Trent, Abbey, Sydney (Mike), Sam; very special great-grandchildren, Brecklyn, Nia; brothers-in-law, Bud (Rosie), Gary (Mary); niece, Laurie (Jim); nephew, Bryan (Jaime); his "brother" Doug and his wife Merry; dear friends, Pat and Durleen, Bob and Bev, Ray and Dianne; his favorite pups who are genuinely lost without his lap, Macie, Budders; other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Louise; parents-in-law, Irvin and Marcella Schwartz; his best friend, Bob Schmelter; aunts and uncles.
