Norma Ann Wied (Sorge) 86 passed away peacefully with her son Joe by her side on Saturday February 18, 2023 at Woodside Rehab Center after a short illness.
Norma was born on February 29, 1936, to the late Clarence and Evelyn Sorge. She was very proud to be a leap year baby, she was really only 21 years old if she went by how many birthdays she actually had!
She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy class of 1954, where she made some lifelong friends. She graduated 6th in her class and worked at Fanny Farmer candy while going to school.
On May 25, 1957 she married John F. Wied at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay. They were married for 52 years when John preceded her in death on Oct 22, 2009.
Following high school Norma worked for Painters Equipment, Kraft Foods and The Larson Company. While raising her sons she worked part-time at Sears, Prange Way and Northwest Fabrics. The job she was most proud of was working 20 plus years as an executive secretary for head of the finance department for the Green Bay School Board.
In her free time she enjoyed sewing, refinishing over 100 pieces of furniture, painting, making beautiful, beaded Christmas ornaments, tending to her gorgeous flower gardens and playing bridge and sheepshead.
Norma's family was her pride and joy. She always made each of us a homemade chocolate cake for our birthdays.
Norma is survived by her three sons, John M. Wied, Randal C. (Amy) Wied, Joseph D. Wied; grandchildren, Adam (Hilary) Wied, Jacob (Morgan) Wied, Brianna (fiancé Seth Lee) Wied, and Josh Vogel; great-grandchildren, Elliott Wied, Nora Wied, Hudson Wied.
She is further survived by her brother, Doug (Beth) Sorge; sister-in-law, Sue Wied; brother-in-law, Wally (Mary) Wied; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Wied; parents, Clarence and Evelyn Sorge; sisters, Doris Burke, Sandy Sorge; brother, Danny Sorge; father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Gladys Wied; brothers-in-law, Bob Burke, Marty Wied, Norm Wied, Delbert Rentmeester; sisters in law, Margaret Rentmeester, Rosie Wied.
