Mildred "Millie" Marie Kappel, 101, Green Bay, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Millie a woman of prayer, was born July 3, 1922, in Chicago, IL to James and Mary (Vavrik) Michalec.
Millie attended elementary and high school in the Chicago area. She had a joyful childhood with her siblings. She fondly remembered always having to give special care to her little sister, Margie.
She moved to Green Bay, WI during WWII and met her future husband, Paul H. Kappel. On September 24, 1947, they were married at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. They were happily married for life with 63 years together. Millie and Paul lived a simple and modest lifestyle in Green Bay. They always enjoyed finding a good deal at a thrift store or rummage sale. They enjoyed their annual pilgrimages to South Dakota and to Paul's army conventions. Millie's secret to a long and healthy life was Prayer, work, good coffee, and chocolates.
At an early age, Millie started a long career as a beautician. Her talents were sought by many, even some wives of the great Green Bay Packers. She had a love and passion for gardening, canning, and cooking. Later in life she had a full career with the WI DOT as a Senior Archivist. In retirement she continued to serve and keep busy by volunteering at the Neville Public Museum, Brown County Library, and St. Willebrord Catholic Church. She was also the gracious and loving caregiver to several of her family members. Millie was known for her quick wit, intelligence, competence, and being a powerful prayer warrior. This prayer warrior was blessed by the Lord, she peacefully passed away while holding her rosary and the hand of a loved one, during the Relevant Radio's Family Rosary Across America.
Millie was the last surviving member of her parents' family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul; parents; siblings, Rosemary Michalec, Margaret Michalec, Josephine (Robert) Kelly, James (Isabell) Michalec.
