Michael F. "Mike" Smith, 72, Norrie, Wis., formerly of Green Bay, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at his home. He was born April 10, 1935, in Green Bay, to Michael and Dorothy Smith. Mike served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He began his railroad career with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. Mike later worked with the Federal Railroad Administration until his retirement in 2003 following more than 35 years of railroad service. On June 24, 1995, Mike was united in marriage to Justine Daniels in Darien, Ill. Mike was currently the president of the Wausau Chapter of NARFE. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs. Mike also loved snowmobiling and was a race director for the United States Snowmobile Association for more than 14 years. Some of Mike's favorite times were when he could spend time with his granddaughters, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Justine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jeff Kazik, Green Bay; Susan and Howard Lee, Streamwood, Ill., and their mother, Marlene Smith, Green Bay; two granddaughters, Theresa and Courtney Kazik; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Daniels, San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Judy Hipps, Michelle King, both of Texas; an aunt and uncle, Esther and Ralph David, Green Bay; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Smith; and his grandmother, Eva Netzer.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. Joseph Catholic Church, corner of Ninth St. and 12th Ave., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
