Michael "Mike" Martens, 56, Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 8, 2021. Mike was born in Green Bay to Thomas and Joyce (Rosera) Martens.
He graduated from Southwest High School and continued his education at UW–Oshkosh where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business. After college, he moved to Colorado where he built a successful career and met the love of his life, Dana Coriano. They shared twenty-five years of marriage and had two amazing daughters, Sarah and Ally. They returned to Green Bay as a young family to raise their girls and build a meaningful life together. Mike was a doting husband and father, showering his girls with the utmost care from coffee every morning to over the stove popcorn at night.
His family meant everything to him. He tirelessly cared for his father and best friend, Tom during illness and has been an endless support to his mother, Joyce. Mike endured a lot of loss in his life and it profoundly changed how he carried himself in the world and how he looked out for and cared for others. He was the rock for his family providing constant support in the way of personal messages, hard labor, and of course piles of food.
Mike was truly the best of the best. He made things happen and took us all along for the ride. Mike found joy in what matters most in life – family, a homecooked meal, being a good neighbor, and caring for the community. Mike never liked to be the center of attention, but definitely liked creating spaces and places for people to gather, share a meal, a Busch Light, and a good story. He treasured the outdoors, and nothing made him happier than sitting in a deer stand, floating on the Peshtigo, or dropping a line in the lake – especially if he could do it alongside his nephews, family and friends. Mike was happiest when he was at "The Farm" or delivering food he caught, canned, smoked, grilled, marinated, or fried.
Mike will be remembered for his selfless acts to help others in the up-north communities, always executed with humility and most times anonymously. He would do anything to ease another's pain or lessen their load. He recently shared this advice, There are many layers to the despair us humans can find ourselves in. In my worst stretches the same thing always works for me. I seek out those who have it "really tough" and directly try and impact their life. This simple act gives me perspective and helps me find my way out. He was the truest and most genuine man.
Mike will be profoundly missed by his wife, Dana; daughters, Sarah Martens (John Gard) and Allison Martens; his mom, Joyce Martens; sisters and brothers, Julie Martens, Greg (Jenny) Martens, Lynn Biolo, Renee (Scot) Henning, Matthew (Kate) Martens; his parents-in-law, Victor and Ann Coriano; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Angelo Coriano, Victor (Michelle) Coriano Jr., Lynn Coriano (Nigel Euling), Michael Coriano (Tsehai Teklehaimanot); and many dear nieces and nephews and too many wonderful friends to count.
He was preceded in death by men he deeply admired and shared unique bonds with - his dad, Thomas; brother, Robert "Bobby"; nephew, Paul Biolo; and brother-in-law, Tom Biolo.
Due to Covid, the Martens family will have a private family funeral service. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com, or cards may be sent to Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303 to the attention of Mike Martens' family and they will be forwarded.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the "LCP Fund" at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. A fund that supports the communities in and around Lena, Coleman and Pound, Wisconsin.
