Mercedes "Merc" Therese Hermans, 97, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 7, 2024. She was born January 3, 1927, in the Chicagoland area to Leroy and Mildred (Klein) Schoenfeld.
Merc was the second of five children growing up at the family home in Berwyn, Ill. She married Leo Hermans in 1948, and the couple moved to Green Bay and started their family. Together they had five children: James, Mary, Thomas, Paul, and Sandra. When the kids were grown, Merc returned to school becoming a dental assistant and worked for years with D.D.S. Richard Tonelli. Later she became a CPR Instructor teaching at St. Vincent Hospital. Merc especially enjoyed long walks with Leo. She loved reading, playing bridge, knitting, and crossword puzzles until her eyesight prevented it. After she retired, she would enjoy a late afternoon glass or (1 1/2) of white wine while listening to a recorded book or her favorite big band music. She was a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and had an unwavering faith. Merc was lots of fun and will be missed by all, especially her family. They will cherish all the wonderful times they had together.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Jane) Hermans, Mary Reed, Tom (Linda) Hermans, Paul Hermans, Sandy Hermans; grandchildren, Tony (Helen) Hermans, Kate (Darius) Torres, Liz Hermans, Joe Hermans, Maddy (Mike) Luedke, Ryan (Erika) Reed, Chris (Sonya) Reed, Adam (Esther) Reed, Brady (Cara) Hermans, Brittany (Hiro) Zaitsu, Amanda Dillhunt, Charles (Miki) Wollitz; great-grandchildren, Leo, Sophia, Vincent, Alexander, Lily, Mason, Hazel, Isaac, Aiden, Jacob, Lucas, Nana, and one on the way; sister, Marlene Hansen; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Merc was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; parents, Leroy and Mildred; siblings, Leroy F. (Grace) Schoenfeld, Mil (Joe) Plicka, Lenny (Terry) Schoenfeld; son-in-law, Doug Reed; brothers-in-law, Terry Hansen, Harold (Ellen) Hermans, Frank (Geri) Hermans, Vincent (Doris) Hermans; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Edward) Moudry, Mary (Tom) Hogan.
