Maxine Virginia (Brusky) Westein, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family and was welcomed to her eternal home by God and her beloved husband, Richard.

Maxine was born on June 26, 1937 to the late Harry and Adele (Plourde) Brusky in the town of Lessor WI. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter. Maxine was a 1955 graduate of Pulaski High School where she played the flute in the high school band. She was proud to have attended their 70th class reunion this past summer.

Maxine married the love of her life, Richard, on January 26, 1957 at Saint Stanislaus Parish in Hoffa Park WI while Richard was home on leave from the US Army. Together they raised 6 children and created a loving family. They celebrated 69 years of happiness until recently when Richard preceded her in death only a short time ago on December 18, 2025.

She retired from James River Paper Mill in 1996 after 22 years. She was proud to be one of the first women hired in an all-male work industry.

Family was always the center of Maxine’s life. Gatherings at the family home and especially the holidays were important to her. She was a great cook known for her potato pancakes, German potato salad and so many more family recipes. No one ever left hungry. She loved canning for many years especially tomatoes, frozen sweet corn and strawberries.

Maxine was a devout Catholic, prayed the rosary and attended mass daily until her stroke in 2023. She was a member of Saint Joseph’s parish Green Bay and later St. Mary’s parish in Crivitz.

Maxine was full of life and had a beautiful smile. She found joy in the simple things in life and being up north. She loved playing cards, shaking dice, playing aggravation and puzzles. You could always find her listening to polka’s, especially her brother and nephew’s. She also enjoyed country music and daddy would sometimes sing to her. She also liked Daniel O’Donnell songs and going to his concerts. She enjoyed watching the Packers hoping her numbers would win.

It made her so happy anytime she could sit outside on her swing around the fire and take anyone for a ride in her golf cart. She enjoyed watching daddy in the yard pulling weeds, feeding the birds and planting flowers. And she never went anywhere without her phone.

Her kindness and generosity earned the respect and admiration of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a heart of gold!

Maxine is survived by her six children and spouses Kim, Renee, Ray (Joy), Randy (Jennifer), Lynn (Keith), Kathy Jo (Craig); nine grandchildren, Rick (Andrea), Ryan (Penny), Riley (Emily), Mitchell, Rebecca (Robb), Brandon (Bailey), Maggie (Mike), Ireland and Oliver; five great-grandchildren, Eva, Ben, James, Jack, Ethan, and one due in September that made Maxine smile so bright; sisters-in-law, Jan Brusky and Kathy Westein; nieces, nephews, special godson, Doug Brusky; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Harry and Adele (Plourde) Brusky, Parents-In-law, Raymond and Helen (Robbins) Westein; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Virginia Brusky, Vernon Brusky, James Brusky, Robert Westein, Maryann Lee, Marlis Westein; and niece, Debbie Westein.

The family would like to thank all her medical team, especially Dr. Tammy Durant. The amazing Unity Hospice staff, Woodside Nursing Home Rehab Center, Woodside Oaks apartments, Charlotte and the staff from Blaney Funeral Home who have helped us through this difficult time.

In honor of Maxine, feel free to wear pink, her favorite color and to honor that she was also a breast cancer survivor.
