Mathias "Matt" Schoepp Jr., 98, Green Bay, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, April 1, 2025. The son of the late Mathias Sr. and Violet (Leuthjohann) Schoepp was born on December 21, 1926.
Matt was a graduate of Green Bay East High School. Following high school, Matt proudly served his country in the US Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor and helped fuel his brothers in arms as a cook. After returning to Green Bay, he was united in marriage to Marion J. Davis at Annunciation Catholic Church. The two shared their musical talents within the community, with Matt being a member of the Barbershoppers until 2018. Matt was employed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1989. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Sullivan-Wallen Post 11. In 2016, Matt went on the Old Glory Honor Flight, an experience he would never forget. Matt had a deep devotion to his country and an unwavering faith in God. In his free time, Matt enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending the winter months in warmer states such as Florida, California, Arizona, and Texas.
He is survived by his children, Diane (Dan ) Bastien, Patricia Bartel, Thomas Schoepp (special friend, Linda); grandchildren, Dawn (Mark) Pierce, Dena Platten, Steven Bartel, Kevin Bartel; great grandchildren, Bryan, Emma, Noah, Brooke, Camden, Loki, Lucian; brother, David (Mardel) Schoepp, Peter Schoepp; sister-in-law, Carole (Norel) Schaut; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Matt was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; daughter, Ellen (Robert) Leamons; grandson, Jacob Bartel; sisters Phyllis Schoepp, Nancy Birsteker, and Linda Oligny.
Friends and family will gather at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., on Thursday, April 10 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. The Requiem Mass for the repose of Mathias' soul will be held at 11:30 a.m with full military honors. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
