Mary Alice Schmidt, 82, Howard, passed away from complications of advanced Parkinsons Disease on Monday, February 16, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born December 13, 1943, to Wendell and Sylvia (Berger) DeBaker and grew up with her three brothers on the bay in Dyckesville. Mary graduated from St Joseph Academy and Mercy School of Nursing in Oshkosh. She specialized in coronary care nursing at Bellin, Columbia and La Crosse Lutheran Hospitals; retiring from St. Vincent Hospital and Libertas.

Mary married David J. Schmidt on December 27, 1969 in Dyckesville, WI at St. Louis Catholic Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, swimming, and cabin life in Vilas Co, WI. She was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was an excellent mother, wife, and homemaker and a strong support for her family and friends. She always listened to others rather than speak. In retirement she enjoyed traveling and fishing at her cabin. Mary was faced with many physical issues throughout her life and met them with courage and resilience.

She is survived by her husband, Dave; daughters, Sarah K. (Steve Butterfield) Schmidt Butterfield, MD; Molly E. (Eric Solari) Schmidt, JD; granddaughters, Ava and Sylvia Butterfield; brothers, Leland DeBaker, Mark (Connie) DeBaker; brother-in-law, Thomas P. (Maxine) Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell and Sylvia; brother, Donald; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Rita (Dan) Potcher, Beatrice (Anthony) Vania, Peggy DeBaker; brother-in-law, Frank (Alice) Schmidt.

Friends and family will gather at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2597 Glendale Ave., (The entrance is directly across from BP gas station on Glendale Ave.)., from 9:30am to 11:30 am on Friday, February 20; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 am.
