Marjorie (Simmons) Wieting Miller, passed away at a local nursing home on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, after a long and full life. She was blessed with many talents expressed in her work as a musician (piano), a model in New York City with the Powers Modeling Agency, a part time actress with MGM and a radio and television personality in Philadelphia. In the 1950's, she was one of the first female disc jockeys in the country, first as Kay Wylie on KYW Radio and later as Marge Wieting on her Street of Dreams show at the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia--WFIL Studios. At one point, Marge was part of a radio line up at WFIL that also featured Phil Sheridan and Dick Clark with whom she was paired for various TV and radio productions and commercials both before and after he began hosting American Bandstand in 1956. She later hosted talk shows on the radio at WCAU in the 1970's and at WPEN in the 1980's in Philadelphia with Ed Harvey.
Marge was very creative and enjoyed painting, especially wild animals, sewing her own original clothing and knitting. In her later years, she volunteered her time to the causes she held dear, particularly her time reading for the Associated Services for the Blind. She also enjoyed traveling with Ed to many countries and throughout the United States.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Frederick "Rick" (Kathy) Wieting, Green Bay; Jacqueline (Martin) Moody, Milton, DE; and Robert "Rob" (Trish) Miller, Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Kurt (Claudia) Wieting, Ann Wieting, Jack Wieting, Michelle (David) Keck, Christopher (Stephanie) Moody, John Miller, Kelly Miller; and eight great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret (Hennelly) Simmons and a sister, Grace Simmons, all of Boston, and the later love of her life, Ed Harvey of Philadelphia.
