Marjorie "Marge" Phyllis Parmentier moved on to eternal peace and joined her husband, Bud and sons, Mike and Mark on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the age of 96. Marge was born to Matthew and Elnora (Dowen) Joppe on February 1, 1926, in Green Bay, WI.
Marge and her family, Matt, Nora, Jim, and Virginia, moved often during The Great Depression. She attended St. John the Evangelist Grade School and graduated from Green Bay West High School. During and after high school she worked for her uncle Henry Dehn at the Dehn's Ice Cream Parlors in Green Bay. It was at Dehn's where she met Francis "Bud" Parmentier. Bud knew he had a keeper in Marge, and they were married on June 15, 1949, at St. Patrick's Church in Green Bay.
Marge then moved to Columbus, Ohio where Bud was attending Ohio State University. It was in Columbus where they started their family when their son Jim was born. After Bud's graduation they moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin and saw their family grow with the birth of Mike.
Wanting to move back to Green Bay and start a business, they relocated in 1953. In 1954, while Bud was working at Charmin paper products in Green Bay, Marge and Bud opened "9th Street Floral" in what was later the living room of their home. Their third son Mark was born the same year.
The business and family grew with a new floral shop building, greenhouses and the addition of twins Bruce and Al, and finally their little girl, Mary Jo. Marge flourished in the career thrust upon her and she became an accomplished floral designer. She was self-taught and worked very hard to develop her craft, all the while excelling at her primary vocation, that of being a loving and caring mother to her six children.
The business name was changed to Parmentier's Ninth Street Floral in the 60's and Marge and Bud worked hard to create a solid reputation for themselves in the Green Bay community. Marge earned the nickname "Mother Superior" because of her demands of perfection from her employees over the years. Working into her mid 60's, she finally retired but was still making bows for Jim in the shop and lemonade for Bruce and Al on hot days in the greenhouse. She was happy to be able to see "her boys" and Mary Jo often, as they had taken over operation of the business and she remained living adjacent to the shop.
When Bud's health failed and he was unable to live at home anymore, he was moved to Grancare Nursing Home and Marge became his daily companion, staying from mid-morning until the final meal of the day was served. She not only helped Bud with his meals but also helped and visited with many of the residents at Grancare. She was of so much help that she was invited to the Grancare staff Christmas parties for a number of years.
Marge enjoyed her retirement, spending many days watching her grandchildren play sports and enjoying the Packers and Brewers and any other sporting event she could find on television. She truly enjoyed spending time at her cottage in Crivitz and in later years in Iron River, MI. Anyone who knew Marge picked up very quickly the fact that she mastered the art of communication as well as anyone has. Two sided conversations were few and far between, but everyone enjoyed trying to follow her thought processes.
After the sale of the family business in 2015, Marge moved to Brookview Meadows in Howard and found her new "home" to her liking. She loved every day she spent there and never tired of telling visitors how much she enjoyed living at Brookview. Marge was a proud member of St. Agnes Church in Green Bay from 1954 until her passing and spent time volunteering in the school cafeteria.
If she was writing this, she would want to thank all of her friends and family who spent time with her in her later years, her sons and especially her daughter Mary Jo and Mary Jo's husband Paul, who spent countless hours with her while she lived at Brookview Meadows.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Dawn) Parmentier, Bruce (Susan) Parmentier, Al (Joy) Parmentier and Mary Jo (Paul) Arvey; her grandchildren; Angela Parmentier Sikorski, Amy (Jeff) Parmentier Massey, Jimmy Parmentier, Alissa Parmentier, Matthew (Alicia) Parmentier, Zackary (Andrea) Parmentier, Katie (Chad) Weihbrecht, Kevin (Brittany) Arvey, Joshua (Jessie) Arvey and Allison (Patrick) Smith and 21 great grandchildren.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Elnora Joppe; her husband, Bud; her sons, Mike and Mark; her brother, James Joppe; sister, Virginia Ourada.
