Marie Laverne (Vonckx) Hebert, 90, passed away peacefully at Century Ridge Assisted Living, Green Bay, WI on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She lived in her own home for most of her life prior to moving to Century Ridge.
Marie was born to Ethel and Emil Vonckx on January 16, 1928 in Green Bay, WI. Marie was the oldest of three children growing up in Green Bay. During the Great Depression, the Vonckx parents instilled in their children lessons never forgotten: nothing was ever wasted, making friends with your neighbors, learning the difference between want and need, gardening and canning to keep cupboards full and focusing on what really matters. Marie lived these values throughout her life and passed them onto her children as well.
Marie graduated from Green Bay West High School, Class of 1946. While in high school she enjoyed playing piano and clarinet. After graduation, she was employed by Dr. Clarence Van Deuren as a dental assistant. Marie met the love of her life, Claude, and they were married in 1949, at Annunciation Catholic Church. Marie and Claude settled in Green Bay, where they lived and raised their family. She was an inspirational mother to their six children and a loving companion and support to her husband.
Marie worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Claude's business, Standard Foods. They truly were partners in life and both worked hard to achieve their goals. They celebrated 67 wedding anniversaries together.
Marie was an enthusiastic Packers fan and enjoyed many games at Lambeau Field and tailgate parties with family and friends. She always had a special dish or two to share at the tailgate gatherings. Marie enjoyed taking her grandchildren to their first Packers games. She also loved traveling, golfing, playing bridge, and celebrating birthdays with her family and friends. Her friends called her by her nickname, Mickey. She cherished her standing appointment, every Friday afternoon at the beauty salon.
Marie had a passion for cooking and baking. She believed that feeding people graciously and lovingly is one of life's simplest pleasures, truly a most basic way of making life better for someone, at least for awhile. Her homemade chicken booyah and caramel chocolate chip brownies were always much appreciated. Marie shared her love of cooking with family, friends, neighbors and community.
She was a devout Catholic, active in her church, and charter member of St. Agnes Parish. Marie will be remembered as a loving wife, honored mother, devoted grandmother and trusted friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will live on in memory.
Marie is survived by her children and their spouses: Thomas and Sheila Hebert, Kathleen and Charles Pease, Timothy and Mary Hebert, Karen and Steven Ault, Kim and Douglas Ault; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne Vonckx Pamperin; and many extended family relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude Joseph; son, Terrance Joseph; and brother, Frank Vonckx.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a Parish Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating. Entombment will be in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
