Margie graduated from Green Bay East High School, Class of 1967. She married the love of her life Francis Claude Burkel on August 25, 1972, at St. Willebrord Catholic Church in Green Bay. She felt it was her calling and incredibly important to be a teacher. She completed her master's in education and was proud to prove that it is never too late to follow your dreams. For many years Margie taught 4th and 5th grade in various Green Bay schools. As a devoted teacher she was there to do all she could to help her students. Margie and Francis helped where and how they could and aided in the purchase of many school supplies.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Margie especially adored her four grandchildren. Her family was a gift from God and as a faith filled woman, she knew how truly blessed she was to have such amazing people in her life. Margie knew the power of prayer and was an active member in many prayer groups at St. John the Baptist where she was a parish member for over 40 years. When Margie wasn't teaching, praying, or doting on her grandkids she was quilting. Margie loved sharing this hobby with her sisters and together they spent hours and hours quilting. Margie poured her heart into her creations. She donated quilts to Sleep In Heavenly Peace, made honor quilts for Vets, and enjoyed sewing pillowcases for kids in hospitals.
