MacKenzie Marie Smits passed away June 27, 2024 at a local hospital from her injuries sustained in a tragic accident.

A beautiful soul taken much too soon will be met at the gates by her beloved dog Daisy, her Grumpa Daniel Smits, Grandma Marlene Kurth and many other loved ones. MacKenzie came into this world on the rainy afternoon of May 13, 2004 and before we knew where the time had gone she had blossomed into a beautiful, happy, caring and loving young woman who will be so sorely missed each and every day by her family and friends, many of which came to be by her side in her final days. She will always be remembered as a hero in all the hearts of people who knew her for protecting her little cousin and also to the countless lives of strangers who will be the honored recipients of her organs.

She had a passion for painting, reading and most recently crocheting blankets and stuffed animals of many types for her family and friends.

She also loved to bake so her position at Blossoms in Denmark was a perfect fit for her and we know she will be missed by her coworkers and many great customers who watched her come out of her quiet shell as she grew more comfortable in her position.

Our beautiful girl is survived by her parents Jeremy and Annette (Kurth) Smits, her little brother and friend, Austin Smits, Grandparents: Bernard Kurth, Janet Smits and special friend, Todd Kibilowski, Jan Bogren, Greatgrandma: Clara Krcma, Aunts and Uncles: Daniel and Melissa Kurth, Shari Salas, Todd Kurth, Ashley and Erich Rusch, Skyler and Chad Nimmer. Cousins: Jesse Kurth and Becca Kane, Cory Kurth and Tilly Bartelt, Crystal Salas, Pedro Salas, Luis Salas, Owen Kurth, Robert Rusch, Emerson Nimmer, Emiliana Salas.

She is further survived by her dearest friend Alex among many other great friends and family.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the rescue personnel on the scene and also to the nurses and staff of the 6th floor intensive care unit at St. Vincent hospital with a very special thank you to two fabulous nurses that helped us get through these most difficult days: Brianna and Selina were two of the most passionate and caring people that could ever have been sent to the room to care for our daughter and ourselves and their wonderful care will never be forgotten.

Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 8; A butterfly release to honor MacKenzie's memory will follow at 7 p.m. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
