Lorraine Casanova Decker LaPlante, 97, passed away on January 10, 2023. She was born October 31, 1925, in Norway, Michigan to Charles and Anna (Marchetti) Casanova. Lorraine was the last living descendant of that large Italian immigrant family.
Lorraine graduated from Norway High School in 1944 and moved to Green Bay. She worked as a medical stenographer at St. Vincent's Hospital and later for the Veterans' Administration. She loved to dance and was a regular at Riverside Ballroom where she eventually met Melvin Decker. They were married 1949, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and were blessed with four children. Mel preceded her in death in December 1990, as well as her brothers, Arthur and Eugene Casanova and a sister, Eloise Wallander. In 1993, Lorraine married an "old flame" as she always said, Lloyd "Red" LaPlante. He preceded her in death as well, in 2001.
Lorraine loved her home and family more than anything else in the world. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader; volunteered at her children's schools and worked for Gibson card company for many years. "Lala" as her friends called her, was a champion Gin, Scrabble and Schafkopf player. She loved to bowl, go to Bingo and spend time with her grandchildren Lorraine was quick to laugh, a happy, lighthearted, positive person all throughout her good, long life. She was well cared for the last several years at Alpha Senior Concepts, where staff often commented on her pleasant personality.
Lorraine is survived by her four children, Ellen (Jean Pierre) Fetu of Paris, France, Chuck (Deb) of Green Bay, Diane (Don) Lewis of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Thomas (Kelly) of Suamico. In addition, she leaves grandchildren and spouses, Joseph (Patricia) Kallio, Anne (Ronald) Kingma, Julie (Scott Robison) Kallio, Brock (Jordana) Decker, Keith Decker, Amelia Word, Meredith (Mark Rine) Lewis, David Decker, Grace Decker; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Red's children, Debbie, Patti, Terri, Peggy, Greg and Brad LaPlante and their families, as well as special friend, Barb Makoski.
