Lois (Fencil) Hansen, 94, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023. She was born April 3, 1929, in Green Bay to Jerry and Ethel (Vanden Branden) Fencil.
Lois had deep roots in the Green Bay Community. She was a 1947 graduate of West High along with her high school sweetheart and future husband, Dick.
Lois had many life- long friends from her early years at Annunciation Grade School, classmates from Green Bay West High School, co-workers, neighbors and special cousins. She continued to make new friends in her water exercise classes through her eighties and new and old friends at her assisted living facility into her nineties. She considered everyone a friend and treated all with kindness and respect and frequently gave out compliments to brighten someone's day. Lois loved to dance, bowl, golf, and play cards. She was well known for her social ability and always ended up being friends with whomever she met.
Lois worked for many years at the Red Owl grocery store prior to their retirement and then enjoyed twenty- five years in retirement in Florida. A caravan of friends from the Green Bay area followed them there, where they all enjoyed many activities together including sharing meals, days at the beach and local events. It was a good life!
Lois was a reading tutor at Franklin Middle School. She helped at the Salvation Army packing food boxes and other volunteer activities through the Wisconsin Telephone Pioneers of America. Additionally, together they organized West High School class reunions for many years. Lois had the most amazing memory which she utilized to remember birthdays. If you told her your birthday she would never forget, she could look at you and instantly recall your birthday.
She and Dick regularly visited old friends in nursing homes and looked after a family friend, Hazel's needs for many years. Lois gladly acted as a chauffeur for anyone who needed a ride to an appointment.
Above all, we would want her life to be remembered for her abiding faith. She led a prayerful life, and her faith allowed her to see the best in everyone, to be kind always, forgiving and compassionate.
She is survived by her sweetheart of 80 years, her husband of (nearly) 75 years, Richard Hansen; children, David Hansen, Jeffrey (Karen) Hansen, Susan (Leon) Tolbert, Greg (Tami) Hansen; grandchildren, Joyce Hansen, Amiel Hansen, Sara Romant, Erik Hansen, Emily (Abayo) Animashaun, Andrew (Rahmat) Wilkinson, Samantha (William) Percoski; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Bysina; special niece, Linda Zaffke.
Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy and brother-in-law, Donald Oudeans; parents, Jerry and Ethel Fencil; close cousin, Genny Allen; sister-in-law, Geraldine Steuerwald (Roger), James Hansen (Rose Mary); special nephew, Daniel Oudeans.
