Leland "Lee" Richard Blom, 80, Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 25, 2025 after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1945, in Green Bay to Lawrence and Louise (Dehn) Blom.
Lee graduated from West De Pere High School and went on to Luther College where he studied elementary education. He taught at Cormier Elementary School and Parkview Middle School prior to obtaining his masters in guidance counseling from Winona State University. He moved to Minnesota where he started as a guidance counselor. He then became the guidance counselor of Parkview Middle School where he served as the athletic director and the High School girls' golf coach. Lee even earned the Teacher of the Year award prior to retiring in 2000.
He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. It was at Trinity on July 13, 1968, that he married the love of his life, Karen Berth. Together they raised a family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who loved to cheer on his grandchildren. He was on the sidelines for almost every sporting and any other type of event for each of his grandchildren. Lee made sure that everyone felt included and special.
He loved his Brewers and Packers but enjoyed watching almost any sport. He was a skilled golfer and proudly had 5 hole-in-ones. Lee was a member of the men's club and golfed at the Brown County Golf Course for many years. He was not one to sit idly but still did things with thoughtful intention. Lee had an artistic eye and created beautiful paintings and stained-glass art and designed detailed woodworking projects.
Lee was always thinking of others and kept the feelings of others at the forefront of his mind. He once told the oncologist that he was sorry that she had to give such hard news. His sense of humor put other people at ease in any situation and could make a joke about anything that would break the mood. Lee joked and made silly comments until the end. He was grateful also for all of people in his life. Lee personally thanked each of the nurses and staff for their care.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Dana Fraedrich; son, David (Tessa) Blom; son-in-law, Kevin Fraedrich; daughters-in-law, RaeAnn, Kristen; grandchildren, Devin Blom (Autumn), Hannah Klunder, Paige Klunder, Dylan Fraedrich, Carson Blom; sisters-in-law, Shirley Blom, Grace Blom, Bev Blom, Joyce Berth, Mary Ann (Paul) Cartier; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Lee was preceded in death by his son, Derek Blom; granddaughter, Emma Blom; parents, Lawrence and Louise; brothers, Roger Blom, Wally Blom, Larry Blom; sister, Arbutus (Ralph) Roth; brother-in-law, Gary Berth.
Friends and family will gather at Trinity Lutheran Church, 330 S Broadway., from 9am to 11am on Saturday, October 4; Service to follow at 11am. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
The Blom family wishes to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice, especially Sam, Tyler, Sarah, Tina, and Chaplain Scott and to Bellin Medical Staff and the oncology team for their compassionate care.
