Laurie Ann Valind, 70, of Green Bay passed away peacefully, with her family by her side Thursday, May 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Laurie was born September 21, 1953, in Green Bay, to Charles and Beverly (Peckinpaugh) Wery. Laurie graduated from Bay Port High School, Class of 1971. She grew up working in the family greenhouses at Charles Wery Farms.
Laurie married the love of her life, Bruce M. Valind in 1980. From that moment on their love was unflappable no matter what obstacles they faced. Through thick and thin they were aligned, unquestioning, never arguing and this was a great source of pride for her.
Laurie was a free spirit who seemed to be able to transcend the hustle and bustle of chasing a carrot. She did not "want" for material items, she was content with the simple things in life. She impressed that to people who were close. Her beacon was love, mother nature, laughter, family, and anything with four legs. Laurie enjoyed painting, gardening, listening to music, and getting people to bust out in laughter. She was always most happy when with her siblings enjoying their large holiday gatherings in her parents' pink house.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; children, Trent (Larissa) Powell, Miranda (Juan) Cuellar-Trejo, Lee Valind; eight grandchildren, Kate Powell, Chas Powell, Alivia Powell, Laticia Cuellar-Trejo, Antonio Cuellar-Trejo, Marcos Cuellar-Trejo, Aryana Cuellar-Trejo, Isaiah Valind; siblings, Linda (Terry) Lambert, Grant C. (Susan) Wery, Jenny Van Rossum, Cindy (Bill) Carpenter, Renee Wery (Jeronimo Trejo), siblings-in-law; Joseph Mastalir, Jeff (Bonnie) Valind, Terry (Jackie) Valind, Vicky (Paul) Plas, and many nieces and nephews.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Beverly; sisters, Amy Wery, Lisa Mastalir; brother-in-law, John Van Rossum; parents-in-law, Pete and Dorothy; and very close family friend Mary VanRossum.
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Avenue, Green Bay WI 54303 on Friday May 10th from 9:00-11:00 with a service to follow. Laurie will long be remembered for being a kind soul, with an iconic smile and grand sense of humor. Please come wearing a big pair of sunglasses and share a memory with us!
