Ken was born on July 12, 1933 on a farm in Bay Settlement to the late Harold and Dorothy Van Lanen.

He married the love of his life, Suzanne, on November 3, 1956. Together, they had two daughters, Deborah and Peggy.

Ken was in the naval reserve while attending Green Bay East High School. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Newport News in the Mediterranean. He completed his tour of duty in December of 1954.

In January of 1962, Ken joined the Green Bay Police Department as a Patrolman. Over the years, he was promoted to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and ultimately Deputy Chief of the Traffic Division. He retired from the Green Bay Police Department in December of 1988.

In 1963, Ken began working part-time for Scheider Moving and Storage and worked there for 34 years. One of the families he helped pack and load was coach Vincent Lombardi.

In 1989, Ken joined the National Football League as a Drug Program Agent. Brett Favre affectionately called him "Dr. Pee." Ken retired from the NFL in 2007.

In his younger days, Ken enjoyed traveling with his wife. They made countless memories up north at Popps Resort, and vacationed around the U.S. with their siblings and in-laws. He enjoyed lunching with the ROMEO group and retired policemen, golfing, fishing, line dancing and woodwork. He will be forever remembered as the ultimate handy-man, who gave his time and talents to many people over the years.
