Joyce Ann Dirschl, 86, Green Bay, passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Vincent Hospital on Saturday, August 10, 2024. The daughter of the late John and Velma (Neuhalfen) Ahern was born in Chicago, IL on April 27, 1938.
Joyce earned her master's in social work from UW-Milwaukee and UWGB. Her career path led her to work at the Green Bay Reformatory and then later for Brown County Social Services. Even after her education, Joyce enjoyed returning to the UWGB campus where she volunteered and helped with Living in Retirement and other organizations. She was passionate about learning.
On April 15, 1959, Joyce was united in marriage to Herman Dirschl. They shared 41 amazing years together before his passing on October 6, 2001. Joyce was a strong, independent woman who enjoyed traveling. She had been to five of the seven continents. Joyce also enjoyed watching plays and musicals, playing cards, and dining out with her friends, although she was also quite an amazing cook. She was a faithful believer and follower of Jesus and was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church for over 20 years where she helped lector. Above all, Joyce was especially proud of being a grandma and great grandma.
Joyce is survived by her children, Marie (Paul) Schmitt, Mike (Mary) Dirschl; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jason) Tobias, Kesler (Cori) Frisch, David Schmitt, Rebecca Schmitt, Terra (Collin) Wendtland, Becca (Bryan) Krause; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Michael Ahern, Don Ahern, Bob (Eileen) Ahern, Larry (Pam) Ahern, Richard (special friend, Kim) Ahern; a brother-in-law, Bob Lynch; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman; her parents; her sisters, Kathy, Emma; a brother, Jack; and a sister-in-law, Colleen.
Friends and family will gather at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., on Monday August 19 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Thomas Reynebeau officiating. To send online condolences, please go to
