John L. "Jack" Piehl, 65, Ashwaubenon, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, in the loving arms of his wife with his son and daughter at his side. He fought a long courageous five year battle with lung cancer.

Jack was born Feb. 20, 1944, in Fond du Lac, to John W. and Marion (Suprenand) Piehl. The family moved to Green Bay when he was 12 years old and he has resided here ever since. He thoroughly enjoyed the summers he spent with his grandparents at their resort on Range Line Lake in Three Lakes, Wis.

He graduated in 1963 from West High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1964. He was very proud of his service to his country. On Sept. 2, 1967, Jack married the love of his life, Janice Wehrman. They had 42 years together and had two children.

Jack completed a bricklayer apprenticeship and was employed as a mason for Howard Immel Construction. He then worked from 1971 to 1982 at Northwest Engineering installing the hydraulic systems in the crane cabs. When Northwest went under, he became employed by KI until his illness forced him to retire.

Jack loved the Northwoods. For 25 years, Jack and Jan, Diane and Mike spent their summer vacations at Rustlewood Resort in Three Lakes, Wis. In 2002, they purchased one of the cottages and have enjoyed it immensely. Jack was able to spend weeks there doing remodeling during his illness. There was nothing like being at the cottage.

Jack was a wonderful man who always gave 150%. He was multi-talented and could fix anything. The greatest joy of his life was being with his family.

Jack is survived by his wife, Janice; a daughter, Diane Piehl, Green Bay; and a son, Mike Piehl, De Pere. He is also survived by his mother, Marion Piehl; one brother, Richard Piehl; one sister, Karen Lenz; and one brother-in-law, John Wehrman, all of Green Bay; five nephews; two nieces; and numerous cousins.

He is also survived by "his little pal", his cocker spaniel, Riley.

He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Piehl; his brother, Tom Piehl; his grandparents, Fred and Estelle Piehl; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Ruth Wehrman.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The Funeral Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev.
