Joan Zuehls, 93, De Pere, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born January 15, 1931, to Frank and Annabel (Bacon) Smet.
Joan was a graduate of De Pere High School, class of '48. On November 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to Merlin Zuehls. Together they loved to travel, especially to Door County, Mackinac Island, as well as Escanaba, MI. Merlin preceded Joan in death on February 20, 2004. During her years of employment, Joan worked for Wis. Telephone Co. as a switchboard operator, a substitute teacher at Lincoln Elementary school, Konop Vending, West De Pere School District, and Richco Structures.
Joan enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and cooking. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially the grandchildren. Joan had a deep faith and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by four children, Cynthia (Zuehls) Ings, Victoria (Kim) Ebben, Greg (Donna) Zuehls, Tracy Wayne (Teresa) Zuehls; seven grandchildren, Heather Ings, Chad (Ashley) Zuehls, Andrea Knorr, Curtis Zuehls, Ashley Zuehls, Travis Zuehls, Amber (Brandon) McGrady; seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Grayson, Piper, Logan, Kinley, Blakey, Barrett; brother, Alvin Smet; sister, Kathleen Vaessen; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; son, Perry Zuehls; her parents; brothers, Robert (Jane) Smet, Omer (Lorraine) Smet, Jerome (Vera) Smet; sisters, Sylvia (William) Robertson, Viola (Terrance) Farrell; brother-in-law, Dick Vaessen; sister-in-law, Betty Smet.
Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5; Parish Wake to follow at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, December 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Suburban Dr. and Lourdes Ave. from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
