Janet Ione Dorn, 77, Green Bay, died surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 19, 2013, following an eight year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was born June 17, 1936, in Wausau to Harvey W. and Ione L. (Nelson) Duranceau.
Janet came to live in Stevens Point, where she graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School and Central State College, now UW-Stevens Point. She then taught kindergarten in Racine and Plover. On November 1, 1958, Janet married Norman K. Dorn in Dubuque, IA and together they raised three children. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed the many activities of the congregation.
Janet enjoyed traveling to military installations with her husband and family, traveling and shopping in Door County, traveling with friends using timeshares, and browsing through antique shops. She loved spending time with her children and attending the various activities of her grandchildren. Favorite pastimes included playing bridge, dominoes, and golf – a card game. She also enjoyed the theater, including the American Folklore Theater, Peninsula Players, and the Weidner Center performances. She also enjoyed the company of her cat, Tiger.
Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Norman; children, Daniel K. (Cynthia), Cambridge, WI; Timothy A. (Debra), Menasha, WI; Kristine L. (Rob Piper), Pulaski, WI; grandchildren, Ryan and Gabrielle Dorn, Jordan and Noah Dorn, Amber, Jacob, Paiton, and Taigan Piper; and a great-grandson, Bryker Piper.
