Jan F. Dery, 77, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home. He was born July 16, 1946, in Green Bay to the late Virginia Schmidt and Roger Dery.

Jan graduated from Green Bay West in 1965.  He joined the United States Navy and proudly served as a sonarman in the Submarine Service from 1965 to 1969 aboard the USS James Madison.   After spending several years exploring different parts of our country, he returned to Green Bay and worked as a welder for Bay Shipbuilding, Structural Steel, and retired from MEGTEC Systems.

In 1979, Jan married Sally Kutchera, celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary in May. They enjoyed many years together at their cottage on the Menominee River.  Many weekends were spent golfing, sometimes being happy with the results but often frustrated by the game.  Perhaps it was all those Fridays Jan spent as a teen breading fish at the Silver Rail, as Jan loved to cook and try out new recipes.  Of course, his friends were always happy to help out with the taste testing. Jan appreciated music and attended numerous concerts. Some of his favorite artists were Dan Hicks, John Prine, Steely Dan, and The Byrds.  Jan treasured the many friendships he made over the years.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sally; brother, Chuck (Sarah) Dery; niece, Briana (Dery) Meadors and her children. Jan will also be remembered by his son, Brian Ferres; daughter, Erin Greenberg; brothers-in-law, Steve (Lorna) Kutchera, Jim (Patti) Chapman; sister-in-law, Nancy Fuller; nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

In addition to his parents, Jan was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Laundrie; in-laws, Nancy (Dick) Chapman and Melvin Kutchera.

Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19; Celebration of Life to follow at 3 p.m. with military honors to conclude the service. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
