James "Jim" Hermes, 82, Suamico, passed away Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by family.
Jim was born April 29, 1942, in Green Bay, to Norbert and Lucille (Georgia) Hermes.
Jim graduated from Premontre high school; he often fondly looked back on this time, reminiscing about the "good old days." He excelled in football as a running back and received the MVP trophy his senior year. His passion for football was lifelong, and as a young man he was in attendance at the Ice Bowl. He also loved working backstage during the musicals under the direction of his great friend and mentor, Rev. Guy E. Guyon, O. Praem.
Jim married Jean Trepanier on April 20, 1963, at St. Jude Church. Together, they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. They met at the Dairy Inn on Velp Avenue and it was "love at first sight."
Jim was a fourth-generation commercial fisherman, first working with his father and grandfather, and later, his sons and daughter. When he had time, he also worked for Great Lakes Towing; he loved being out on the water and worked until he was 80 years old! Jim was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. John the Baptist. As a child he belonged to Saint Patrick's Parish and continued to volunteer there as an usher as an adult.
He enjoyed football, hockey, and stock car racing, always taking his four kids along; time with family meant everything to Jim. He created lasting memories when he loaded the family into the camper to visit Walt Disney World, New Orleans, Minnesota, and Colorado to see relatives. What incredible road-trip adventures! Finally, Jim loved his Great Pyrenees dogs, Nikki and Lollipop.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Lorie (Thomas) Sausen, Thomas (Jessie) Hermes, William Hermes, Patrick Hermes; grandchildren, Maria (Jeff) Hinnendael, Eric Hermes, Ethan Hermes, Logan (Allie) Hermes, Nathan Hermes, James Hermes; sisters, Gerry Jolliffe, Mary Lou Haering; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Lucille; brother, Thomas Hermes; brothers-in-law, Larry Jolliffe and Charles "Chuck" Haering.
