James William Hawkland, Jr., died on Saturday, September 27, 2025 - one day before his 64th birthday.

How can we write the final chapter of a 64-year old life story, condensing it all down to a couple of obituary worthy paragraphs, and expect to do proper justice to this man we loved? He was our brother and our friend whose unexpected death has left behind a painful void in our lives forever.

Jimmy was more than just a collection of dates and biographical information, but they are always a good place to start:

Jimmy (or as his sisters lovingly nicknamed him, "the only begotten son") was born on September 28, 1961 to the late James and Phyllis (Wasmer) Hawkland on Toul Rosieres-En-Haye Air Base, France. The military family enjoyed traveling together and were stationed both stateside and in Europe. After Dad retired from the US Air Force, our family settled in Green Bay.

Jimmy graduated in 1979 from Southwest High School and proudly served in the Air Force from 1981 to 1988 where he worked as a Radiological (X-ray) Technician. Except for a year-long job transfer to Phoenix Arizona in 2003, he called Green Bay home for the rest of his life. He was employed at Schneider National for many years.

Jimmy loved music and shared that passion with everyone in his life. He was an avid reader and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge on a wide range of subjects...because he actually read encyclopedias! Jimmy didn't always express his emotions, but behind the thin veneer beat an incredibly loving, kind, and generous heart. He made deep connections wherever he went.

We called him the "little old man" because he was so set in his ways, but he also got a childish kick out of teasing his family and friends. Jimmy was the life of the party, an excellent dancer, the perfect host, and he made everyone feel loved and welcomed in his home. Every room he walked into became instantly brighter, and to borrow his favorite phrase when describing awesome things, Jimmy was and will forever be "hippy keen."

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wonderful and loving parents, James Sr. (1987) and Phyllis (2016); his beloved dogs, Angel and Stanley (who died only five days earlier on September 22nd).

Jimmy is survived by three sisters and brother-in laws: Beth (Bill) Bongle, Suamico; Denise (Blair Wagnitz, the brother Jimmy always wanted) Hawkland, Green Bay; and Kimberly (Roger Anderson) Hawkland, Gwinn, Michigan; Longtime friends who meant the world to him; nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Friends and family will gather at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4pm to 7pm on Monday, October 6; with a Sharing of Memories from 6pm to 7pm. Military Honors to follow. Inurnment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
