Irene J Gajewski saw the face of God and he took her breath away on June 19, 2023.

She was born January 13, 1931, to John and Nora (Bernat) Stepien. Irene grew up on a farm in Porterfield, WI with her 12 siblings.  She attended Marinette High School, then fell in love with Ted Gajewski. They married "before it got cold" on November 13, 1948, and together they created a warm and loving home for their four daughters.   Irene was a wonderful homemaker; a clean home and good meals made her very proud.

After the girls had grown, Irene went back to work in retail, taking phone orders for Sears Catalog.  In retirement, she and Ted traveled. Later, they moved to Green Bay to be closer to their grandchildren.  She especially loved being a "great" grandmother to Luke and Logan.

Irene is survived by daughters, Mary Brown, Karen (Steve) Smith, Linda (Gene) Peterson;  grandchildren, Trisha (Dr. Paul) Filar, Matt Brown, Lisa Brown, Mandy (Curtis Nolan) Swiecichowski, Eric (Lindsey) Smith, Alex (April) Smith, Emma (Skyler) Sasser, Andi (Matt)  Peterson-Longmore; great-grandchildren, Logan and Luke Filar; siblings Larry Stepien, George Stepien, Helen Lund, John Stepien, and Dale "Jim" (Sandy) Stepien; many nieces and nephews who called her "Aunt Rene".

Preceding her in death is her husband, Ted; daughter, Sue; parents, John and Nora; siblings, Walter, Adeline, Vernon, Stella, Loretta, Eleanor, and Jean; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Fran Grenier.

A Celebration of life will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 at the Green Bay Distillery, 835 Mike McCarthy Way, Green Bay. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

Thank you to the caregivers of Marla Vista Memory Care and Unity Hospice who treated Irene with respect and love to the very end.

I had a mom that cared enough to holler, to hug, and to heal a broken heart.  A mom that gave up, so I could have things.  A mom that made hamburger and a dollar stretch.  I had a mom that worried about me even when I didn't know I needed to be worried about.  I had a mom that pushed me to do better, that was proud of me, and that showed me to how be a strong woman.

Good Night Irene, Good Night Irene, I'll see you in my dreams
