Helen H. De Coster, a remarkable woman who passed away on June 14, 2025, left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for family. Born on June 11, 1946, in Oak Park, Illinois, Helen was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Edna (McCally) Henneberry.

Helen's academic journey began at Trinity High School, where she graduated in 1964. Her thirst for knowledge led her to further her education at Edgewood College in Madison, and St. Norbert College where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, complemented by a minor in Chemistry.

It was while at Edgewood that Helen's life took a romantic turn when she met her soul mate and love of her life, James "Jim" De Coster.  On June 22, 1968, they wed and embarked on an incredible 57-year journey, filled with unforgettable experiences and shared love. Their travels took them across the vast expanse of the United States.

Helen was a culinary mastermind, renowned for her delectable cooking skills. She also delighted as a wonderful grandmother, cherished by all who knew her. Her deep appreciation for science was evident in her love for exploring the wonders of the natural world with her grandkids who loved every minute of it. She had a love of gardening, cultivating a bountiful and beautiful garden each year.  Saturday mornings were for the farmers market where she took extreme joy talking with all the vendors and finding fun new plants to add to her garden.  She was an avid bird watcher and contributed to Cornell's Great Backyard Bird Count for many years. She mentored and coached hundreds of Ashwaubenon students in Olympics of the Mind, which participated in state and national finals numerous times. Additionally, Helen found joy in watching sports with her husband, being very well versed in most sports.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Jim; four children, Kim (Jason) Hlavka, Fond du Lac, Nicki (Brian) Mikkelson, Green Bay, Dave (Stacia) De Coster, Madison, Mike (Heather) De Coster, Iowa City, IA; grandchildren Drew Mikkelson, Zach (Bella) Mikkelson, Maya De Coster, Annora De Coster; sister, Jane Henneberry; sisters-in-law, Ann (Stan) Carlson, Mary (Dennis) Krysiak; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
