Harvey Jensen, 83, died peacefully at the home of his granddaughter with his daughter at his side on Wednesday evening, June 24, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born Sept. 1, 1925, on Washington Island, Wis., to the late Peter and Hattie (Oleson) Jensen. On June 30, 1954, Harvey married Beverly Fromm, and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Throughout his life, Harvey enjoyed operating heavy equipment and worked for the Oconto County Highway Dept., Schneider, and the Town of Washington. In addition, as a chief engineer, he sailed a passenger ferry from Bay Ship Building in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., to Alaska. After his retirement, they resided for six years in Algoma, Wis.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the 340th Engineer Construction Battalian and was a proud member of the American Legion Washington Island Post #0402. He will be lovingly remembered as a collector of all things "still useful."
Harvey will be missed by his five children, Tom (Mary Ann) Nichols, Greg Jensen, Cathy (Ray) Anderson, Candy Jensen, and Cori (Todd) Cornell; eight grandchildren, Heather (David) Cox, Nicole Jensen, Ray (Tiffany) Anderson, Quentin Jensen, GT Stein, Courtney Cornell, Gary Lewis, and Shelby Cornell; six great-grandchildren, Aiden and Brady Cox, Dylan Deprey, and Joseph, Megan, and Makayla Anderson; and his 90 year old brother, Norman (Helen) Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; his brothers, Wallace (Emily), Raymond (Grace), Edward (Jean), and Myron; and an infant son, Gary.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28. The Memorial Service will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and will be officiated by his grandson, Pastor Ray Anderson.
