Harold "Harry" Ryan Maier, Jr., 90, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He was born to Evelyn and Harold R. Maier Sr. in Sheboygan, WI on August 6, 1927.
After high school graduation, Harry entered the Army Air Corps. He attended St. Norbert College for two years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he received his journalism degree in 1951.
Harry cut his journalist teeth at the Portage Daily Register in Portage, WI as a reporter, editor and photographer. In 1956 he became a general assignment reporter at the Green Bay Press-Gazette where, except for a brief interlude in Sturgis, MI, he remained until his retirement in 1993.
Post "retirement" included employment at St. Norbert College and The Business News, along with a full-time volunteer schedule at numerous community organizations.
Harry is survived by his wife, Marian; his children, Hal (Sue), Liz, Martha (Mike Filigenzi) and Tom (Chris); nine grandchildren, Katy, Ryan and Devon Maier, Isaac, Erin and Evan Wallace, Ella Filigenzi, Allie and Colie Maier; great-granddaughter, Brynlee. He is further survived by two sisters, Marilyn Evans and Carol Wehrley.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave., from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald Everts officiating. To send online condolences, please go to
