Harold "Hal" Francis Nelson, 87, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024. He was born June 12, 1937, in Escanaba, MI to Albin and Freda (Dahm) Nelson.
Hal enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp shortly after graduating from Green Bay West High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Caryl Cobb on August 23, 1958. For many years Harold owned and operated PTL Trucking and C & H Excavating. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator with Red's excavating. Hal was revered for his skill and was fondly known as "Spike" throughout the industry. He was a longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church and served many years on the church council and sang in the Boys Choir. Hal enjoyed making firewood and proudly made his own log cabin in Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Caryl; children, Mark (Kate) Nelson, Paul (Jinell Warson) Nelson, John (Susan) Nelson; grandchildren, Samantha (Joel) Peterson, Kayla (Zack) Malechi, Grace Ferfecki, Bennet Ferfecki, Isabel Ferfecki, Nicholas Nelson (Lisa Drayer), Natalie (Chad) Blakeley, Steven (Christine) Babbit, Erik (Kassie) Babbit, Skyla (Kyle) Shobe; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ileen Nelson; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Ronald) Pederson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Freda; brother, Carl Nelson; sister, Margaret (Harold) Westenfeld.
Friends and family will gather at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Rd., from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 27; Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will be at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
