It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Glenn Achter, beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, friendship, sense of humor, and generosity. Glenn was 90 years old.
A lifelong Wisconsin resident, Glenn was born in Sheboygan and grew up in Cascade. While working at The Erie Oil Company, he met Margaret Filz. They married in 1957 and had three children. In 1959 he was hired by North Central Airlines and they moved to Wausau, where they lived for six years. Upon his promotion to Ticket Counter Supervisor for the airline, they moved to Green Bay, where he lived until his death.
After taking a driving trip to Niagara Falls for his honeymoon, Glenn discovered an unexpected love for travel. He and Margaret traveled throughout the US, the Caribbean, and parts of Europe with family and lifelong friends. Upon returning, he'd share stories of the shenanigans they'd enjoyed, to the constant bemusement of his children.
Glenn retired in 1997 from (then) Northwest Airlines, and he and Margaret joined the Moose Lodge in Green Bay. He was an active member, rose to the rank of Deputy Supreme Governor and earned his Gold Coat. He enjoyed his involvement and made many friends across the state and country, as he and Margaret traveled to many conventions and events. He also had a second career driving for Bergstrom Automotive, which fed his lifelong love of cars and driving.
After the passing of Margaret, Glenn became reacquainted with a high school classmate at a reunion. Over the last four years, he enjoyed love and companionship with Alice Meyer.
Glenn is survived by his three children, Steve (Anne), Laura, and Diane, as well as three grandchildren (Steph, Charlie and Will), his great grandson Zade, as well as his sisters Lois Slabe (Joel) and Joanne Krueger, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 at noon at Stadium View Event Hall in Green Bay. All are welcome, and notice of your attendance will be appreciated by emailing lburknews@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Mooseheart Charities for Children or Moosehaven for seniors, two causes dear to Glenn's heart.
