Gertrude "Gert" Regina Ryba, 89, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024. She was born December 16, 1934, in Maple Grove, WI to Leo and Agnes (Jarosinski) Styczynski.
Gert grew up on a dairy farm in Pulaski. She graduated from Pulaski High School, Class of 1952. On October 9, 1954 she was united in marriage to John J. Ryba Jr. at St. John Cantius Church in Sobieski. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage. They moved to Green Bay to raise their family. Gert worked for Montgomery Ward for several years. She enjoyed many vacations with John including trips to Poland to visit relatives, traveling around the states, and a family cruise.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Elks Club where she served as chaplain for several years, Annunciation Church and then later St. Agnes Parish. In 2015 Gert and John moved to Emerald Bay Assisted Living where they made many new friends. She enjoyed doing crafts and playing Bingo.
She is survived by her children, Sue (Cal) Berg, Sandy (Richard) Matuszak, Steve Ryba; seven grandchildren, Nick (Crystal), Kristy, Michelle (Kenny), Brett (Rebecca), Rachel (Joel), Paula (Evan), and Ashlee; 12 great grandchildren, Logan, Mason, Kaylee, Kamden, Kaelen, Brennan, Brice, Azura, Ezra, Everett, Willoh and John; brothers, Richard (Dorothy) Styczynski, Leonard (Marian) Styczynski; siblings-in-law, Rosemary Styczynski and Bernice Gutowski; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Gert was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Leo and Agnes; brother, Chester Styczynski; sisters, Delores (Tony) Hylok, Evelyn (Florian) Strzelecki; parents-in-law, John J. Sr. and Kathryn Ryba.
Friends and family will gather at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 9th St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 5; Parish Wake Service will follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, January 6 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Patrick C. Beno presiding.
